EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH – APRIL 2010

Dennis Wells

CONGRATULATIONS to Dennis Wells, Utility Worker IV for the Wastewater Department, on his recent selection as Employee of the Month for April.

Mr. Wells has performed beyond expectations during critical and time sensitive work projects on many occasions. He is often asked to assist other departments and crews on various projects. Mr. Wells is always willing and able to assist in a very professional manner.

Recently, the Wastewater Collection Division was asked to raise five sanitary sewer manholes to grade on South Santa Fe Avenue. The manholes were under the pavement and encased in concrete. On a short notice, Mr. Wells was given the task and a crew of two to complete the project. Mr. Wells coordinated rapid traffic control set-up and the surveyor crew. He and his crew completed the job by the end of the day. This type of task often takes the better part of two days under normal circumstances. The project restored the availability of manholes that had been hidden for a long time, with minimal traffic disruption.

On another occasion, Mr. Wells and a crew were asked to repair a portion of 10-inch sanitary sewer main that the electrical company had bored through. This accident could have caused serious problems, including customer backups or sanitary sewer overflows. Mr. Wells and his helper were assigned to the job and moved quickly and precisely to mobilize equipment, tools, and supplies. The project was complete within six hours from the time that the assignment was made. This quick response and efficient work saved the City money in contractor costs, as well as eliminating liability from potential backup damages or fines for overflows.

At this time, we would like to thank Dennis for the sincere dedication he routinely displays on the job, and it is with great pride that we present him with a special Certificate of Recognition for outstanding performance. We extend our most sincere appreciation for his representation of the City of Pueblo in a professional and competent manner, and we wish him continued success in the years to come.
