New film celebrates Pueblo’s 140th Anniversary

Did you know that the City of Pueblo at one time was actually four different communities? How about the founder of one of those towns was also the founder of our neighbor to the north? Or that we may never actually know how many people lost their lives in the 1921 Flood?

You can find out answers to those questions and more by viewing a video produced by the City and the Impossible Players now running on Government Access television channel 17 on Comcast.

The film, “Celebrating Pueblo’s 140th Anniversary” was produced as part of this year’s celebration of the 140th Anniversary of incorporation. The first town that made up Pueblo became official March 22, 1870, and the other townships followed the next few years.

The video covers Pueblo from its beginnings as a fort at the juncture of the Fountain and Arkansas Rivers, through the flood, Depression years, and right up to the economic innovations of present day.

The Impossible Players Theater Group, and Bobby Cuomo and Debra Hill wrote the film from the city’s Media Division. Local historians George R. Williams, Joanne Dodds and Eleanor Fry also provided information used to write the program, with photos and film supplied by the Pueblo Library District, Pueblo Historical Society, and Library of Congress.

“Celebrating Pueblo’s 140th Anniversary” will run three to four times a day over the next few months.
